Formal Admission Quick Facts and Overview
Formal Admission is admission to an educator preparation program when an applicant meets all admission requirements specified in §227.10 of the Texas Administrative Code.
Requirements for Formal Admission in Teaching Excellence:
2.5 GPA or higher (either overall or last 60 Hours)
GPA Exemption Complete and pass the PACT for certification area (Pre-Admission Content Exam)
Certification Credit Hours
12 college credit hours in Certification Area (15 credit hours for Math and Science)
Take and Pass the PACT for certification area (Pre-Admission Content Exam)
Sign Admissions Paperwork
Commitment to Completion
Hired for Full-Time Teacher of Record in one of our partnership districts
In order to complete formal admission, a teacher candidate must...
Ensure Teaching Excellence has an Official Transcript by either emailing or mailing transcript to Teaching Excellence or emailing or mailing transcript to hiring district. (LINK TO TRANSCRIPT PAGE)
Create a TEA ID and share that ID number with Teaching Excellence so that teacher candidate admission can be recorded with the TEA. (LINK TO INSTRUCTIONS)
Sign all paperwork within 7 days of notification of formal admission.
Spring Pathway formal admission will occur on a rolling basis between February 24th - May 1st, 2020
Summer Pathway formal admission will occur between July 8th - 10th, 2020
School Year Pathway formal admission will occur on rolling basis between July 12th, 2020 – March 2021
Formal admission into Teaching Excellence is required for a teacher candidate’s program hours to accumulate and to gain approval to take state certification tests. You will not be able to move forward in the program without being formally admitted.
