hris Reid is the Manager of Professional Learning at Teaching Excellence, and he believes that all students deserve an excellent teacher in every classroom. Through high-quality professional learning and personalized coaching support, he and the Teaching Excellence team are reshaping the educational landscape of Houston across multiple districts. Chris strives to provide differentiated, application-centered professional development for novice teachers and for the facilitators with whom he works.
In 2009, Chris began his work in education by joining Teach for America and relocating to Houston. He taught 6th and 7th-grade math in the Houston Independent School District, where he served as grade-level chair, math department lead, and DukeTIP advisor. In 2011, Chris received an HISD Human Capital Fellowship to found the GATE Academy at his middle school; together with his campus administration, he worked with overage, at-risk students to recover credits and to accelerate their graduation trajectory. He transitioned to the Teaching Excellence team in 2013 as an Instructional Coach and joined the Professional Learning team the following year.
A graduate of the University of Georgia in 2009, Chris holds degrees in Italian and English. As an undergraduate he worked in operations for the university Provost, executing various campus-wide ceremonies. Chris believes that a well-developed plan is the key to executing a successful project.
In his free time, Chris enjoys traveling with his partner, attending live concerts, and visiting museums. He is an avid UGA football fan, and he enjoys playing tennis. A self-described foodie, Chris loves to cook new recipes and try new restaurants.
